Championship Section Final 2021 - Retrospective
What an incredible and emotional day we all had last Saturday at London’s iconic Royal Albert Hall. The Championship Section Final 2021 was a fabulous occasion, and showcased the best aspects of brass banding in a truly world-class venue - one that Kapitol Promotions Ltd is honoured to organise an event in each year.
We’ve had so many messages of thanks & support for going ahead with this event; we feel that every single person who performed & attended deserves special recognition too. Our heartfelt thanks go to you all: the “Nationals” is the people’s contest… it’s nothing without the wonderful people that make our brass band movement so unique.
The event itself was the tip of the iceberg (as is always the case), but in particular this year’s preparations have been incredibly challenging - with the green light to go ahead not officially received until the UK government’s “Freedom Day” on 19 July. Since then, a small team headed by Philip Morris (Managing Director - Kapitol Promotions), Nicola Bland (Co-Director), Tim Jones (Event Manager) and Tony Griffiths (Health & Wellbeing Officer) have worked tirelessly to make this event the undoubted success that it was, whilst ensuring that the safety of performers, audience members, crew, contractors, and everyone else at the event was of paramount importance.
The Kapitol Event Crew (who are all volunteers) on the day were simply brilliant, as they were at the Sections 1-4 Finals 2021. Their sheer determination to ensure the event runs as smoothly as possible, whilst at the same time ensuring that bands felt safe & happy throughout the day was a joy to behold. We are proud and grateful to you all.
We would like to thank the commercial supporters of this event: Denis Wick Products Ltd., Brass Band World Magazine and Ev-entz for your support this year, and also to our contest exhibitors World of Brass and Just Music. The Ev-Entz Stage Percussion Team were incredibly efficient onstage too.
Congratulations to the National Champion Brass Band of Great Britain 2021: Foden's Band and to the pre-qualifiers for the Championship Section Final 2022 The Cory Band, Tredegar Town Band & Black Dyke Band. Thanks must also go to The Bands of HM Royal Marines Fanfare Team for a wonderful performance during our Results Ceremony to herald the Champion Band, and to the composer of the set test-piece Bruce Broughton who flew from the USA to be with us. We’d also like to thank our experienced trio of adjudicators Robert Childs, Stephen Cobb & Rob Wiffin for your expertise and professionalism throughout the day.
We hope that everyone who came along to the RAH yesterday enjoyed themselves, and felt safe whilst doing so. It’s an honour and a privilege to organise & uphold this historic Championships, and we hope that our efforts this year are another positive but tentative step towards brass banding coming out of the COVID-19 pandemic, and with confidence that contests and concerts can resume with a large degree of normality.
