Kapitol Promotions Ltd Announces New Directors

Kapitol Promotions Ltd, owners & promoters of the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain has today announced the appointment of four new Directors to the Board.

Dr Robert Childs, Tony Griffiths, Tim Jones & Tony Morris will join existing Director Nicola Bland and Managing Director Philip Morris, and their appointments were officially registered with Companies House on 24 May 2024.

Philip Morris said: "These appointments reflect our desire to strengthen our Board, ensuring that we have the range of skills and views required to enable the future success and sustainability of the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain. Their knowledge and expertise will help to develop and enhance our flagship competition, which remains one of the most prestigious events of its kind in the world".

Kapitol Promotions Ltd is considering further appointments in due course.

 

DR. ROBERT CHILDS

Dr. Robert Childs is a leading figure in the world of brass music. For over forty years he performed at the highest level giving solo performances in many of the world’s most prestigious venues, and is now recognised as a leading education specialist and brass band adjudicator.

In 2002 Robert was awarded a Doctorate in Musical Arts from the University of Salford and is also an Associate of The Royal College of Music and Fellow of The London College of Music. Robert gained a Master’s Degree with distinction from University of Leeds, holds a Post Graduate Certificate in Education from the Open University and in 2007 his remarkable achievements were recognised by the Worshipful Company of Musicians when he was awarded the prestigious Iles Medal. In 2008 Robert was given ‘Freedom of the City of London’ and received the prestigious John Edwards Memorial Award by the Welsh Music Guild for outstanding contribution to Welsh Music.

 

TONY GRIFFITHS

Tony Griffiths has been involved in brass banding since a young age, and has performed and conducted brass bands at every level. His passion now focuses on development and promotion of brass banding, giving young people from an early age the opportunity to learn and experience music making. Tony actively supports various projects in the North of England, as well as teaching brass in his local primary and secondary school.

Tony, a qualified Psychiatric Nurse, worked extensively in hospital and community services as a service manager. Using his skills and knowledge in his role as Health and Wellbeing Officer with Kapitol Promotions Ltd, he helped guide the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain through the recent COVID-19 crisis & continues to campaign for awareness of mental health issues in the brass band movement.

Tony is honoured to be the Regional Secretary for the North of England – a role and responsibility he takes seriously, developing the regional contest and supporting bands in the region.

 

TIM JONES

Tim Jones is a skilled events manager & experienced musician who has been involved in the brass band movement since joining the BTM youth band aged eight. Appointed Registrar of Brass Band Players Ltd (BBP) in 2013 – a role he still occupies – Tim has more recently been involved in the organisation & administration of the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain, becoming Event Manager of the National Finals in 2019.

Tim studied Music at Cardiff University and gained a BMus (Hons) followed by a Masters in Performance Studies, and during this time performed at the highest level of UK banding. He is currently passing on his extensive musical experience to students of all ages through his work as a private music tutor.

 

TONY MORRIS

Coming from a banding family, Tony Morris has been involved in brass band events for over 30 years. He has been an integral part of the National Finals Events Team since 2000, when Kapitol Promotions Ltd took over management of the competition. Tony is looking forward to facing the challenges & opportunities ahead regarding the future of banding.
