Stranraer

History

Stranraer Brass is based in South-West Scotland and, next year, celebrates its 50th birthday. The current membership is a real cross section of ages and backgrounds and the band prides itself on the friendly atmosphere that is always evident.

Our younger players are the product of a Training Band set up a few years ago. Five of our school-age members form the Stranraer Brass Ensemble which this year won the first Scottish Young Musicians’ Ensemble of the Year award; part of the prize was an invitation to perform at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. The band is about to start a new Training Band to prepare for the future.

For the last 5 years, Stranraer Brass has been fortunate to have Angela Miller as its Musical Director. During that time, even when Zoom rehearsals were the order of the day, she presided over a steady improvement in performance and results, culminating in qualification for the Finals. Angela’s enthusiasm and drive are a key part of our progress.

Stranraer Brass plays a significant role in community events throughout the year and we have been overwhelmed by the support shown for our fund-raising efforts by businesses and individuals over recent months.
