Barnsley Metropolitan

History

Barnsley Metropolitan Band is based at The Civic in central Barnsley, South Yorkshire.

The band was formed in 1973 as a music centre youth band for Barnsley children taught in schools, by music centre staff. In the 1990’s the band became a self-constituted organisation and operated as a community band for all, and it is run by an independent organising committee. In 2012 the band became partners of The Barnsley Music Education Hub to offer high quality brass band opportunities.

Our membership crosses the generations and includes a good mix of ages. A lot of our members have progressed through the Junior and Intermediate Bands, operating through the Hub, to the senior band. We have a busy and varied concert schedule performing at a variety of local, regional and civic events.
