Welwyn Garden City

History

The band was formed in 1934 and has a varied history including contests, TV appearances, recordings, and tours. The band's first ever tour took us to Belgium and Germany. Back in 1982 the band played for Her Majesty the Queen Mother at a garden party in the grounds of Hatfield House.

In January 2016, the band collaborated with the Barn Theatre in Welwyn Garden City on their production of Brassed Off. On opening night Tara Fitzgerald, who starred as Gloria in the 1996 film, attended the show. The band had the opportunity to meet and chat wth Tara in the bar after the performance.

The band have recently raised the money to buy much needed new uniform. The band has worked hard and gained some excellent results at recent contests, including winning the 3rd Section of the Oxford and District Brass Band Association's Winter Contest earlier this year, and receiving promtion to the 2nd Section from 2025.

This is the first time at the National Finals for the band since our MD was in nappies!! Great results during our 90th Aniversary year.
