History
Penclawdd Brass Band, founded in 1973 by the esteemed Tony Small, recently marked their 50th anniversary with a sensational concert. What started as humble ‘Small’ beginnings at Penclawdd Secondary School saw the band's rapid rise, qualifying for an impressive 11 National Finals within their first 14 years.
Their crowning achievement came in 1983 when they clinched the National Championships of Great Britain (Second Section) at the prestigious Royal Albert Hall. Subsequently, in 1986, they triumphed at the Welsh Regional Championship section. Representing Wales in the top tier at the Royal Albert Hall in 1986 and 1987 stands as a momentous milestone for all involved.
Penclawdd Brass Band boasts a prestigious record of nurturing talent, with many members contributing to the National Youth Brass Band of Wales. Several musicians have pursued further musical education, underscoring the band's commitment to excellence.
Throughout their illustrious history, Penclawdd Brass Band remains a shining example of musical prowess and dedication in the heart of Wales. As they look ahead to the upcoming performance at the National Finals, the band will pay tribute to the late Mr Tony Small, a visionary leader dearly missed by all.
