Nailsworth Silver
History
Nailsworth is set in the heart of Stroud’s picturesque Five Valleys and is home to Nailsworth Silver Band. The band was founded in 1919 by returning soldiers from the First World War and has been a big part of the Gloucestershire town ever since. Over the last 100 years, the band has had a variety of successes and achievements, including their first appearance at the National Finals in 1969. Nailsworth had a big push of success through the 1990s, gaining promotion from the Fourth to the Second section during this period. An era of uncertainty followed and the band came close to collapsing before returning to competition in 2005. Some members of the 2005 iteration are still playing among the ranks today. In recent years, the band has enjoyed a period of sustained success beginning with an appearance at the 2019 Fourth Section National Final. Under the baton of Anri Adachi, Nailsworth won the 2020 WEBBA Regionals before backing up that success with a Nationals win in 2021. The band has risen to the challenge of the Third Section and achieved commendable results of 3rd, 4th and 2nd in the three Regionals. Nailsworth are looking forward to participating in the band’s first Third Section National Final before a new adventure in the Second Section for 2025!
