Golborne
History
Golborne Brass Band is based in Golborne, near Warrington. The band, which includes players from Wigan, Warrington and beyond was first formed in 1847, and in 2022, celebrated its 175th anniversary. Golborne Brass Band prides itself on its links to the local community, including its proud mining heritage. The band can be found throughout the year performing at local concerts and events including Picnic Brass at Haigh Hall, Golborne Carnival, Howley Carnival, Orrell Live festival and the Remembrance Sunday parades in Wigan and Golborne.
The band is conducted by Les Webb, who has played for many of the top bands in the country, including the Principal Trombone position with The Fairey Band and has also played for Foden’s Band and Grimethorpe Band. Under Les’ leadership, Golborne Band continues to develop playing together as an ensemble and individually as players and Les is keen to challenge the band through the choice of repertoire performed at concerts and by entering contests. Les’ famous motto “music is fun” permeates the rehearsal room, where focused work is interspersed with lively discussion.
Golborne Brass Band are proud to have the opportunity to represent the North West at the National Finals in Cheltenham for the second year in a row.
