Medway

History
Founded in 1928 as the Gillingham Silver Imperial band, The Medway Band are without question the best brass band in Kent. The band is based in Gillingham, the heart of the Medway Towns, and attracts players from all over the south-east of England.
The Band has competed at the highest level of banding, spending the best part of a decade competing in the Championship Section. During this time, the band were a regular fixture at the Spring Festival and the English Masters. The Band have also featured regularly in the media, and recently appeared on the ITV Surprise Surprise! Christmas Special.
The band recently joined forces with a local Amateur Dramatics group in the successful staging of a week-long performance of Brassed Off.
As well as contesting, the Band have a regular diary of concerts throughout the year, where we support the local communities in and around the Medway Towns. Having successfully survived the COVID lockdown, the band has seen a resurgence in membership and success, resulting in gaining promotion back into the Championship section for 2024. Under the direction of MD Chris King, the premier MD in the South-East, we aim to continue enjoying what we all love best, which is competing against our friends in the best brass bands in the country. With the aim to win, of course!
