Zone One

History

Zone One Brass (ZOB) provides a platform for brass players, be it professionals, amateurs or students, to pursue their passion for the brass band tradition in central London. ZOB has had a long association with the Royal College of Music and the band is proud to involve many current students and graduates in its line up today.

Since forming 21 years ago, education projects, concerts, recordings sessions, corporate events and contests have all been part of the band’s activities.

ZOB’s ‘Brass Tracks’ education project brought together over one hundred young brass players from London Music Services and was awarded the ‘Outstanding Musical Collaboration’ accolade at the 2014 London Music Awards.

ZOB concerts have ranged from community Christmas events to performing rare repertoire and premiering new works. High profile events have included playing to royalty at Buckingham Palace, performing live to eight million listeners on BBC Radio 2, to being part of a major art installation by pioneering American artist Christian Marclay. The band’s corporate clients have included BBC, Eurostar, ITV and Southbank Centre and commercial recordings have been made for Sony Records, ‘Britain’s Got Talent’, as well as a session for BBC Radio’s ‘Listen to the Band’.

Today will be ZOB’s 7th appearance at the Nationals since its first 2009. They are current champions of the London and Southern Counties.
