Tredegar Band was officially constituted in 1876. Over the last 50 years they have become an established elite level performer, claiming British Open titles in 2010 and 2013 and being crowned Welsh Champion on thirteen occasions.
A self-supporting organisation, they are renowned for their commitment to artistic innovation.
They provided music to the 2015 BAFTA Award winning film ‘Pride’, as well as for the world premiere of Gavin Higgins’ acclaimed ‘Dark Arteries’ production with the Rambert Ballet at Sadler’s Wells.
Their award-winning CD releases ‘Dark Arteries’, ‘War Memorials’ and ‘Vaughan Williams on Brass’ have been complemented by a series of high-profile concert performances and project initiatives.
These have included playing a major role in the 70th anniversary celebrations of the National Health Service, whilst in 2022 they performed in two critically acclaimed BBC Proms Concerts at the Royal Albert Hall.
The performance of Gavin Higgins’ ‘Concerto Grosso for Brass Band and Orchestra’ alongside the National Orchestra of Wales subsequently won a 2023 Royal Philharmonic Award and a 2023 South Bank Sky Arts Classical Music Award.
