The Nailsworth Silver Band are delighted to be attending the National Finals this year, especially as we celebrate a 100 year of music-making in Nailsworth. It’s been a long journey (25 miles to be exact…) and we are glad we can share it with you! Over the last 100 years the band has gone from strength to strength but unfortunately took a downward spiral in the ’90s and in 1998 the band was left with just 4 players. With sheer determination from Mr T Picken and Mrs D Mcdougall, they formed the new Nailsworth Junior Brass to bring new youngsters into the band, and to this day many of them are still amongst the ranks with some going off to join the Armed Forces Bands Services.
More recently the band has seen success in many contests locally as well as regionally with the help of the various conductors at the helm, with Steven Ruck finally managing to push the band all the way to the national finals this year for the first time in 50 years! The band has also just completed a very successful tour to Leves in France and welcomed Tom Hutchinson to play at our Centenary Concert. Roll on the next 100 years!
