Hucknall & Linby MC

History

Established as recently as 2008 the Hucknall and Linby Mining Community Brass Band have enjoyed a rich vein of success under the stewardship of musical director Mr Paul Whyley. Placed within the heart of the local community in the Ashfield district of Nottinghamshire and the town of Hucknall, which itself is steeped in history as a mining town and the final resting place of Lord Byron. The band has forged a strong reciprocal relationship with the local community, hosting concerts and entertainment contests throughout the year in the area in an attempt to engage with the local community. This close relationship with the community has been central to the prominent rise of the band who in March this year finished runners up on their debut performance in the Midlands area, first section championships by playing a “well balanced and technically sound” rendition of Gilbert Vinter’s Symphony of Marches. This success of this youthful and talented band has surpassed all expectation and astonishingly means a second successive appearance at the National Championship Finals of Great Britain at Cheltenham racecourse in September 2019 where the band will be taking on Philip Sparke’s Endeavour before the bands maiden voyage in the Championship section in 2020.
